In 2006, LG teamed up with Prada, to create the LG KE850; now 5 years later the design is still considered modern.
The Prada phone was arguably the first full touch phone and one of the first 'smartphones' on the market. A year later Apple came out with the iPhone, a full touch-screen phone with a similar design and interface. Then in 2010, 4 years after the Prada phone came out, Apple released the iPhone 4; a direct look alike of the phone LG released back in 2006. Chrome around the sides of the phone, a horizontal speaker on the top of the phone and an almost featureless front and back, are just some of the similarities between the two.
Criticism arose when the iPhone was first released, with many online forums arguing the similarities between the two handsets. Weeks later LG accused Apple of copying the Prada phone's design and threatened to take legal action. When the iPhone 4 came out, their was no comparison between the two phones, but in fact Apple had taken another step to far, copying the LG Prada phone even more. Now after 1 year on the market Apple is suing Samsung, over the designs of their phones, being to similar to the iPhone's.
Apple cheaters! Apple fans, accept the truth that Apple has copied a 5 year old design. Great article!
ReplyDeleteApple fans shouldn't (I don't) like the iPhone because it is fast and brand new technology. I like it because it has the app store with huge activity, and a huge base of support. Albeit most only like their phones because they are so popular and advertised.
ReplyDeleteLG Prada was announced on December 12, 2006 and the Apple iPhone WAS SHOWN January 9, 2007. So hardly "one year later" and certainly not enough time for Apple to "rip-off" the LG phone, even if their engineers worked holiday overtime. As to the iPhone 4s being a rip-off of this particular LG Prada phone, hmmmm, well they both look like Smart Phones and have silvery edging, so if you want to make an argument there, go for it. Yawn.
ReplyDeleteActually, this article is saying that the iPhone 4's design is the copycat of the LG Prada, not the original iPhone's. Now, it's okay that the iPhone 4 looks a lot like the LG Prada. But, it's not okay that Apple is suing other manufacturers over the design of their phones, especially when their iPhone 4 is a direct copy of the LG Prada.
DeleteToo late to reply, but, one thing you should know, engineers do work holidays and it only takes 3 month to develop a new phone
DeleteDirect copy? You sir are an idiot.
ReplyDeleteIdiot? You sir are a fanboy.
Deletelol Someone got wat was coming^^^^

ReplyDeleteYou sir are brainwashed beyond hope
BULLf@%*ingSH!T!!!
ReplyDeleteYou must be dreaming Samsung's lawyers dreams!
I saw & personally owned most of the smart phones from EVERY maker since about 1999 onwards, when I worked in the industry. Only the smallest Sony Walkman-style phones were actually useable to play mp3s, or had decent lo-fi photo cameras.
BUT THEY ALL needed added-on data cards to greatly expand their memory: prices >$200 dollars were typical for propietary Sony memory-sticks. But forget about ever trying to get online, use a web browser, view multimedia, or ever trying to type long texts on screen or using crappy tiny keyboards with multi-tap predictive text!!!
SONY: Pretty good hardware + sh!thouse software = useless overly complicated menus, crappy useability other than for their Walkman functions & EXPENSIVE!.
When Nokia started taking over, Sony joined with Ericsson & it got EVEN WORSE!: menu nightmare hell for everyone.
Meanwhile, Samsung were way overpriced, sh!t software, unsupported by carriers or third party accesories/developers/content-providers & were mostly clam-shells, quite small & much worse clunkier crappier versions of Sony's.
Remember the Matrix movie?: that über-cool phone that Keanu gets in a registered delivery package & then uses to be warned about the "Agents"? That was Nokia's infamous 7110 & later the 8110 phones, with the drop-down slide to reveal the keyboard... Even those pieces of crap totally kicked Samsung's arse!!!!
That's why Apple took over that whole mobile phone industry in a single year. They brought us FIRST: a usable web browser; SECOND: a great already-perfected music player; and THIRD a great few apps that actually worked, had great usability & eventually expanded to become the AppStore. Oh, and it was also a pretty good phone... with a TOUCH SCREEN!!! Remember?!
Stop trying to write these BS posts & go watch the original Matrix movie instead kid, you might actually learn something. Please.
Seriously.
(it's a great movie!)
@CarlitosM yes you are right on what made the iPhone a great product but you are missing the point. The reason people are pointing out the cosmetic similarities between iPhones and earlier technology is because Apple wants to pretend they invented the wheel (and the rectangle too by the way, oh and the colour green).
ReplyDeleteApple are being a bunch of terrible hypocrites. Copying and then patenting everyone else's stuff and then suing anyone who uses stuff they themselves stole.
Yup, nice web / music / apps, but again that totally misses the point. Apple is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
This is to all defenders and attackers of apple iPhone.
ReplyDeleteI do have iphone because I like it not because there is lot of BS behind the scenes. Actually I started to hate Apple as a corporation, because of the dirty tricks they are doing. They became a name and now they try taking over the technology, right ? Like everyone else who becomes wealthy, want more and more.
Let's look at the basics, exactly as someone said, "they trying to pretend they invented the wheel".
All they do is just improving what was already invented, thus making them copy stuff. example: they didn't invent the cell phone, nor mp3 music player, nor web browser, nor software, nor applications, not even the damn bloody OS (iOS).
All they did, they just improved it. They didn't even invent the shape, nor PRADA did. It was all there before, very long ago. And this is exactly what Samsung does or any other company that wants to get to the market, obviously. What Apple wants though, is take over everyone, and I hate that a big time. I like Apple products and Samsung or any other products, for their individual reasons, but really hate the management/investors of Apple, and people that blindly support them.
Really good post.
DeleteI still don't understand why companies develop serious apps for iPod??? It is a toy. Yes, I understand it for iPad, it's more or less a functional toy. But we should use things for their direct purposes in order to get a good result.
ReplyDeletesearh here
What a bullshit!!! You call this a copy?...Just look at that Dirty LG crap. iPhone 4's design looks very different from LG Prada & is much beautiful. So what, if it has a silver ring around it? LG Prada is made of cheap plastic. iPhone is a luxury phone. Dont know why people post such bullshit articles on internet...huh!
ReplyDeleteDesi fad
DeleteApple sit in a glass house ... the product is good and it works ... but they are not some kind of savior of mankind like so many fan boys think .
ReplyDeleteThe lines to buy new product are and always have been full of sad pathetic beings with no life technology moves on as does life ... Steve jobs died along with him so did Apple .
The Fan Boys have too much trouble seeing what is real and like a drug addict deny they have a problem , we all know what the end will be ...The passing of an era with Apple just one part of it as Samsung is showing the world
I see the similarities physically but I bet iPhone 4's apps and OS is way better and in no way copied Prada.
ReplyDeleteHow is it possible that iPhone will copy other mobiles. The other companies are copying iPhone. The physical similarities doesn't matter. ucuz iphone 4
ReplyDeleteThey do not even look slightly similar, except for the black and silver color.
ReplyDeleteYou are ignorant and an idiot.
You guys are so stupid... The article isn't to say the iphone is a bad phone.. simply that the physical design's idea came from the prada. It may be a good phone (disputable) but the physical look of it DID clearly come from the prada.
